Hi. I'm Deb Lehman and have had a love-hate relationship with writing
ever since sixth
grade when I started writing terrible mysteries and
hilarious letters from camp. It's been awhile since
elementary school,
LOL, but I have accumulated over twenty-five years' experience as
a copywriter, journalist and professional love letter writer.
I've
started a tutoring biz and love working with students of all ages,
needs and backgrounds. I enjoy building language and writing
skills, boosting
confidence, and sharing my love for literature.
I have two very cool kids who keep me young.
Time to fess up.
I love Glee, Glee Project, American Idol, The Voice, and Nine
Lives of Chloe King. I'm addicted to Zumba and there's
no one I love dancing better to than Pitbull,
Beyonce, J. Lo, Ce Lo,
Fonseca and Shakira. But the artists I listen to for pure play-with-
my heart listening pleasure are Adele, Pink, Amy Winehouse, Rihanna.
They remind me of
Dusty Springfield, Laura Nyro, and other soulful girl
singers of the sixties. I'm also still very much
into The Doors,
Beatles, Hall & Oates, and Motown.
You may ask: How does someone go from pop to rock to soul? That's me. I defy
pigeon-holing.
Same for my writing. It's multi-layered, honest, passionate,
dark, literary, and yet very commercial.
My speeches and stories make people
laugh, cry, or both.
I'm writing
an edgy YA novel featuring three flawed high school students
embroiled in a cyber bullying hoax that
leads to suicide.
Favorite YA: Hunger Games, Living Dead Girl, Speak, Keeping the Moon, Dreamland,
Forever, We All Fall Down, Sweethearts, What I Saw and How I Lied,
The Earth, My Butt
and Other Round Things, Elsewhere.
Favorite Adult: Pride & Prejudice,
Middlemarch, Ordinary People,
A Widow for One Year,Too Many Men, The Pact, My Sister's Keeper,
Prep, An American Wife,The Help, Olive Kitteridge.
And finally,
there's Harry Potter, in a class by
itself. Rowling is amazing. Her rags-to-riches story
never fails to stir me. After reading The Hunger Games,
I have finally found another
series that takes my breath away.
Suzanne Collins can write. More magic!
